BS 5837 & Trees within Planning and Development Seminar – Darlington

On the 14th May 2009 Elliott Consultancy Ltd directors Charles Prowse and Andrew Elliott partnered with Darlington Borough Council to present a seminar entitled ‘BS 5837 & Trees within Planning and Development’.

The morning event, which received a full-house, was aimed at raising awareness to some of the issues commonly experienced regarding trees within the planning and development process.

Representatives from each of the surrounding local authorities were invited to the event, which received delegates from the planning, enforcement, landscape and arboricultural sectors.

British Standard 5837 ‘Trees in Relation to Construction’ 2005 was discussed in detail, with particular importance given to the document’s intended phased approach and an explanation of when each element should be applied.

Examples, from projects that Elliott Consultancy Ltd have been involved with, were used to highlight the main issues encountered and the need for arboricultural input from the outset in order to achieve satisfactory integration of trees and structures.

Elliott Consultancy Ltd would like to thank all who attended the event and Darlington Borough Council for their invitation to provide the seminar, in particular Arboricultural Officer Phil Haynes for organising the event.
